Two Weeks in Vietnam: A Flexible North-to-South Route

A realistic 14-day starting point with room for weather, rest and your interests.

Reviewed 2026-11-04 · General travel guidance

Days 1–3: Hanoi

Arrive and settle in. Explore the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, historic neighborhoods and local food without overloading the schedule.

Use one day for museums, cultural sites or a slower neighborhood walk.

Days 4–5: Ha Long Bay or nearby nature

Choose a bay cruise or an alternative nature-focused excursion depending on weather and your preferred pace. Allow enough transfer time.

Check boat safety, current operating conditions and cancellation policies before committing.

Days 6–9: Central Vietnam

Travel to Hue, Da Nang or Hoi An. Balance heritage sites with local markets, food and time to explore on foot.

Central Vietnam weather can affect plans, particularly during wetter months. Keep at least one flexible day.

Days 10–14: Ho Chi Minh City and the south

Fly south for museums, markets, neighborhoods and an optional Mekong Delta experience. Reserve your last day for a relaxed departure.

For a slower trip, omit a region rather than trying to fit every highlight into two weeks.

Common questions

Is two weeks enough to see Vietnam?

It is enough for a good introduction, but not every region. Choose fewer stops if you prefer slower travel.
